The coveted colostrum.<br \/>Customized just for him.<\/p><p><br \/>Latch, suck, sleep, repeat.<br \/>All bliss.<br \/>Then the milk comes in.. tender, full, swelling, pain.<br \/>Less bliss.<br \/>Resistance and then finally surrender.<br \/>More bliss.<\/p><p><br \/>I watch him and ignore the clock.<br \/>Open bar. Full time job. Touched out.<br \/>Unsnap, unbutton, unzip.<br \/>Can \u0301t get my shirt open fast enough.<br \/>I stop wearing them.<br \/>Always exposed. Drip, drip, drip.<br \/>Nap traps, but still bliss.<\/p><p><br \/>The more I surrender the easier it gets. The more I enjoy it.<br \/>Side lying saves me. It saves us.<br \/>Cluster feeding and growth spurts enter the chat.<\/p><p><br \/>Then he starts to look up at me and smile.<br \/>Acknowledgment. Connection.<br \/>It fuels me as I fuel him.<br \/>Beautiful baby blues, so striking from this angle.<br \/>The perfect pout.<\/p><p><br \/>Some days are harder than others.<br \/>Some days are more bliss and some days are more bullshit.<br \/>Some days my husband feels useless because he has no tits.<br \/>Some days I agree.<br \/>Some days I envy other mothers that made other choices or that weren \u0301t able to breastfeed for<br \/>whatever reason.<br \/>It \u0301s always greener on the other side.<\/p><p>Nights are lonely, but when he needs me and my body cures his discomfort, I am re-energized.<br \/>Hungry, fussy, tired, sick, bored, whatever the mood, I am the answer.<br \/>When in doubt, boob out.<br \/>My body astonishes me&#8230; he thinks it \u0301s normal.<br \/>My boobs will never be the same.<br \/>But nothing will ever be the same.<br \/>And I don \u0301t want it to.<br \/>Sacrifice.<br \/>He \u0301s sucking the selfishness out of me.<\/p><p>Teeth reveal themselves and the biting begins.<br \/>So does the distraction, the twisting and the bouncing from boob to boob.<br \/>I \u0301m always flashing.<br \/>I put the boob he \u0301s not on away and he immediately wants that one.<br \/>The grass is greener for him too.<\/p><p><br \/>Clogged ducts. The pain.<br \/>The remedy?<br \/>Feed him more.<br \/>More?<br \/>I can \u0301t possibly feed him more.<br \/>Massage. Heat. Repeat.<br \/>Dangle-feed.<br \/>Well, now I really feel like a cow.<br \/>Massage. Heat. Repeat.<br \/>Vibration. Hydration.<br \/>Finally release and back to bliss.<\/p><p><br \/>Now, back to work and the pumping begins.<br \/>Flange fittings and freezer stash.<br \/>Pump, clean, pump, clean, sanitize.<br \/>Don \u0301t forget about the deadline.<br \/>Performance anxiety.<br \/>Slacker boob.<br \/>Am I making enough?<br \/>Eat the oatmeal. Drink the tea.<br \/>I try to trust my body, trust my baby.<br \/>Woozah. Stress = less.<br \/>I use all the tricks.<br \/>Headphones in. Labor playlist on.
